The Roman Goddess Venus deifies love, beauty, fertility, and flourishing life. Unlike her Greek counterpart Aphrodite, Venus was honored not only as the patroness of desire but also as protectress of gardens, prosperity, and civic well-being. She embodies the fullness of embodied joy — the blossoming of spring, the sweetness of fruit, the sacredness of pleasure. Her symbols shimmer with sensual abundance: apples, figs, and strawberries as fruits of fecundity; roses and myrtle garlands woven in her festivals; the scallop shell of her sea-born myth; and doves, sparrows, and swans that draw her chariot. Mirrors, perfumes, and jewels are sacraments of self-worth. Her sacred colors are green for fertility, pink and gold for radiance. Her titles reveal her breadth: Venus Genetrix, Mother of the Roman people; Venus Verticordia, Changer of Hearts; Venus Cloacina, Purifier of Waters; Venus Victrix, Victorious One. Festivals such as Veneralia (April 1) and Vinalia (April 23, August 19) honored her as principle of abundance and prosperity. Traditional offerings include roses, myrtle wreaths, sweet cakes, figs, wine, honey, perfumes, and adornments, alongside songs, poetry, or dances performed in her honor.

Dark Moon in Taurus ♉️
Heron recently published a Substack article with some insights on working with Venus during the upcoming Dark Moon on Saturday, May 16th.
Venus in Taurus teaches that love is proven through consistency, through showing up, feeding the body well, resting when tired, through consensual touch, and appreciation of beauty. Taurus, for all its stability, can also slip past virtue into the vice of clinging vainly onto impermanent things. If you hold onto what once felt good long after it has stopped nourishing you, that imbalance will eventually hurt you. So this Dark Moon offers a magickal moment for a gentle but honest clearing out of bad habits.
